Essential Oil Profiles: Grapefruit!

grapefruit essential oil

Common name: Grapefruit

Latin name:
 Citrus paradisi

For a refreshing, bright, and uplifting aroma, try diffusing Grapefruit essential oil!

It blends beautifully with all other citrus oils, as well as Rosemary, Palmarosa, Geranium, and Cardamom.

I love citrus oils! Grapefruit has so many wonderful qualities, but because it is so common I sometimes forget how amazing it is.

Perhaps Grapefruit’s most valuable use is as an antidepressant.  It’s a “sunny,” mentally stimulating oil, and can be wonderful when added to a massage oil or bath, when worn as a perfume blended with Sandalwood, or simply diffused into the air.

Grapefruit is also known as a valuable oil for fluid retention.  Its diuretic and detoxifying effects make it a useful oil for sports massage, by helping to disperse lactic acid after hard exercise, thereby reducing aches and pains.  Many women use Grapefruit to help alleviate bloating from water retention. In addition, Grapefruit is good for congested, oily skin and acne and has a tonic effect on the skin and scalp.  Its refreshing aroma can be a welcome addition to many skin care products.

Uplifting Jojoba Perfume

1 oz Jojoba
10 drops Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)
10 drops Sandalwood (Santalum album)

Uplifting Solid Perfume

1 oz Jojoba
1/2 oz Beeswax
10 drops Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)
10 drops Sandalwood (Santalum album)

For the solid perfume: Place the beeswax and jojoba oil in a Pyrex glass measuring cup. Fill a soup pot 1/4 of the way with water and boil. Place the Pyrex in the pot of water and wait for the beeswax to melt into the jojoba. This takes about 5 minutes on a high heat. Be sure none of the water from the pot boils into the Pyrex.

When melted, mix quickly and pour into a 2 oz jar, add the essential oils, stir and cover right away. Let it cool and you have your perfume!
