Energizing Aromatherapy Diffuser Blend

by Andrea Butje on November 15, 2013

RosemaryIn this 4-minute “How To” video, you learn to make a diffuser blend that I think you’ll love!

The blend combines essential oils of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct. camphor), Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) and distilled Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) to create an uplifting, energizing blend for the mornings or that afternoon slump.

Click here to watch the video!

The video also includes a discount code for any Puzhen diffuser—an exclusive deal for Aromahead!

Along with the blend in the video, I want to share another favorite diffuser blend of mine right here:

Conifer and Citrus Heaven
20 drops Siberian Fir (Abies sibirica)
25 drops Pinon Pine (Pinus edulis)
10 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)
15 drops Makrut Lime (Citrus hystrix)

Add all the drops to a small 5 ml orifice reducer bottle. This becomes your “stock” bottle, and you can add 10-15 drops of this blend to your diffuser. If you don’t have a diffuser, you can just add the oils to a small bowl of steamy hot water! If you love the blend, go ahead and make a larger amount (just use a 15 ml bottle and double or triple the drops).

Do you have a favorite diffuser recipe to share? If you’re reading this post from the Aromahead blog, please add your blend to the comment section. Thanks!

Hello, Andrea.

Thank you for the above blends, as well as the many other wonderful recipes on your site. I’ve just finished making our very first inhalers (muscle tension for the hubby and sinus infection for me). I would like to make the Conifer and Citrus Heaven blend for our ultrasonic diffuser.

My first question is:

As we want to try out this recipe for a 100 ml ultrasonic diffuser before making a stock blend, would you say that the following calculations would be correct?:

4 drops Siberian Fir (Abies sibirica)
6 drops Pinon Pine (Pinus edulis)
2 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)
3 drops Kaffir Lime (Citrus hystrix)

My second question is:

We do not have Siberian Fir or Kaffir Lime yet. We do however have Black Spruce (Picea mariana) and Lime (Citrus x aurantifolia) Cold-Pressed. Would these be fine to use instead and at the same drop calculations?

Thanks very much.

P.S. I’m so totally in love with Pinyon Pine from Aromatics International thanks to you.

Hi Dee!
That sounds just right to try this blend.
Spruce (Picea mariana) a sub for Siberian fir and Lime (Citrus x aurantifolia) in place of Kaffir lime would be wonderful in this blend.

All the best,

I bought a blend that combined Lemon, Rosemary, Peppermint, Basil and Bergamot labelled as a “Energy Booster” but if you have the base oils you can definitely play with it and have a good custom blend that works for you. I think ill try and add orange and pine and fir and see what effects come from that

I can’t use rosemary due to epilepsy. What can I use as a substitute along with the grapefruit and lime?

Andrea Butje January 19, 2016 at 12:15 pm

Hi Nancy – you can use Sweet Marjoram instead of Rosemary 🙂

Because I’m hard of hearing, I have a difficult time with videos and stay away from them because I don’t hear what is being said. Is there any chance you might share the recipe in writing for those of us that are hearing-impaired? Thanks!

Andrea Butje November 15, 2013 at 1:49 pm

Oh Liana, I am sorry! Here is the recipe:

15 drops of Rosemary (ct camphor)
15 drops of Grapefruit
15 drops of distilled Lime

5 ml bottle

About 10 drops in the diffuser each time. 🙂
