About me:

I have been in the medical field most of my adult life, starting as a medical assistant, working as a scrub tech in labor and delivery and then moving onto becoming an RN which led me to become a certified hematology and oncology nurse for the last 20 years. I began my career at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. In 2005 my husband and I moved to Arizona where I worked in a hospital that was very supportive of integrative practices and complementary therapies. This led me to become a Reiki master in Sedona (which was amazing, by the way) and then attend Southwest Institute of Healing Arts and become a licensed massage therapist, where I learned several modalities from many different cultures. This is where I was introduced to aromatherapy In 2007, where I began to learn about the oils and how to Integrate them into my personal life and practice. My husband and I moved back to Cincinnati in 2013 and 3 children later (all girls), I have transitioned into a different role at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. My title is a Holistic Health Specialist with the Integrative care team. I continue to work with pediatric hematology and oncology patients offering energy work, massage, breathing, mindfulness modalities, and now aromatherapy. When my team was approached to start an aromatherapy program in our department, I was all in, but I also knew that working at a magnet status hospital that I would need more education and I wanted to choose the best of the best; Hence, here I am completing this program.

What I loved about Aromahead:

What an amazing experience this has been. I have enjoyed this program so much and I would love to further my education with Aromahead and eventually complete the advanced graduate course as well as the teaching opportunity. I loved the webinars as I could listen to them over and over as I was cleaning or driving in the car. I have officially become an aromatherapy chemistry nerd. I used to loathe chemistry because I never quite understood it...somehow I passed my courses to get through nursing school, but Andrea has made it so easy to follow that I actually not only understand it, but have retained the information as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my case study experience. I loved gifting people with my blends, but I also really enjoyed the feedback from the case study instructor, Jessica Shepherd, who was not only thorough, but thoughtful in her reviews of each individual case study. It really helped me to integrate and retain the material I had learned. I also had the same experience with both my written exam and research paper. It felt so personalized and that makes this program very unique. While I am using this education for my career, it has been applicable to my home life as well. I purchased the natural living course and have gone to a completely chemical-free home as far as my cleaning and personal care products. My kids love getting involved in making the body butters, blends and lip balms. So, needless to say, we love the blending exercises.
